"What new skill would you like to learn? What advice would you give to a new swimmer?"
Although the first day was a disaster, over the next few lessons I gained a lot of confidence.
Learning anything new can be overwhelming; however, a little bit of research in finding the best-suited instructor(s) and/or facility can go a long way. I looked at a variety of facilities that offered swimming classes and finally settled on a female instructor who provides one-on-one lessons. I was looking for maturity and experience in an instructor. I was lucky enough to find both. Within two lessons, I gained confidence and learned various basic skills.
Based on my needs, my decision in picking an instructor was solely the result of my inexperience as a swimmer. Swimming classes are taught in groups, as pairs, or individual lesson. The group lessons are the most affordable and the individual lessons are the most expensive. I wanted one-on-one attention from an experienced mature swimming instructor and so I was willing to pay a little extra.
Whether it is learning to swim or taking a dance class, it is never too late to learn something new. I am definitely making progress towards being an independent swimmer. Listen I am not going to be a good swimmer and I know this. Nevertheless, I feel that knowing this basic survival skill is crucial for every individual.
